Expectation to WEN’s activies

Yukiko Okada

Yukiko Okada
President of WEN

Women’s Energy Network (WEN) was established in March 1993. Since then, throughout the various changes in the environment surrounding energy issues, we at WEN have continued to serve actively as a “pipeline” between energy experts and the general public. Our activities can be classified into two rough categories. The first is to enhance knowledge and experience through information exchange between members and voluntary study meetings. The second is to be a communicator by creating as many opportunities as possible for interaction between experts and the public.

From 1998 onward, we also run project activities in which members can participate of their own will and engage more deeply in their areas of interest. Based on the outcome of these projects, we have compiled public relations booklets, presented papers at academic conferences, taken part in the “Open School for Atomic Energy,” and organized forums across Japan.

In the wake of the accident at Tokyo Electric Power’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 11, 2011, we hope to establish an all the more neutral and fair perspective on the issues of energy and natural resources. And by talking with the public and thinking together, we would like to aim for a society that promotes better coexistence between people and energy.
